Quad Accident

It wasn't suppose to happen, but it did. Because it did, we accept the reality and move forward.

After our return to Reunion last week arriving on Thursday the 3rd, on Monday, the 7th (our 19th wedding anniversary), a close friend, Dominique and I went Four wheeling with ATV's . Jonathan and his friend Jack were along as well.

Upon the return home on a nearby mountain, with a slippery trail and steep descent, there was an accident where I was thrown forward from the four wheeler. The machine then flipped over on me breaking my back, the 2nd vertebrae, and severely bruising my rib cage. With no access to nearby roads, I chose a difficult option arriving home in the bed of the friend's 4x4 truck.

Our family called the ambulance and I was taken to the local hospital in St. Denis. They were very thorough and did an initial x-ray followed by a complete scan from the waist to the neck.

After a two day stay in hospital, thankfully, I came home by ambulance on Wednesday with a neck brace. Fortunately we have a bedroom on the main floor of the house and I am able to rest and recover there. The doctor's orders are for 45 days of lying down - bed rest. I can stand for meals, walk a short distance to the toilet, but cannot sit for more than 30 minutes a day.

Thanks to all who have encouraged through kind words and prayed. I am SO thankful to be alive with no paralyzing results.

Alarms and Alarmists

Have been thinking these days on the subject of alarms and alarmists. Not sure I really like either, but recognize alarms nevertheless are vitally important.

Sunday morning our family was flying out early in the morning and needed to be at the airport for a 5:15 AM flight. With requirements as they are these days, that meant the need to be at the terminal by 3:15. Great thing is we were close to the airport, just a ten minute drive, so the alarm was set for 2:45. When the body is weary, the mind is experiencing fatigue and the softness of the bed grasps every muscle, the alarm at that hour is not real pleasant. Since it was sooo early in fact we set two alarms, just in case. The first alarm went off and I have to confess I did hit the snooze for another 4 minutes of silence. But the second alarm went off about a minute later, so it was time to get up and on the move.

An alarm really is important as they help one deal with what is necessary whether it is to get up and get going or become aware of danger. How many times I have been thankful for the alarm sounding of a large truck backing up when I was in its way. I am not so sold however on alarmists. They tend to enjoy shocking others and get pleasure from their message. Alarmists seem to intimidate and sometime manipulate with information that may or may not be true. Alarmists have a tendency of being self-centred with their agendas. Whereas an alarm provides a wake-up for the well-being of others.

As I reflect on what is going on in our world today with so much information available depicting our times, there seems to be many alarms going off. These are days to wake-up and quit hitting the snooze button. I sense the alarms I am hearing means to open the eyes to Jesus and what He has to say.

By the way, we did make our flight.

We often are asked what the weather is like on Reunion Island. For the most part it is nice year round and because of the altitude we live at 1500ft.... are blessed to say the least. At the bottom of this page is a weather map of actual time climate in our area. Our little island (can you almost see it) is next to the big one (Madagascar) on the left.

JOSEPH

Joseph has been on my mind these days as I think about the advent - coming of Jesus our Saviour.
    Joseph really doesn't get a lot of press time it would seem.
       Yet he is a hero in my mind nevertheless.

Only the 16 times Joseph is mentioned in the scripture, we can learn a thing or two.
    The Bible says he was a righteous man - that he was interested in right living, doing the right thing.
       Several examples depict this character simply.
          He was interested in following simple laws like the time of census under Augustus (Matthew 2:1)
             He followed the Abramic alliance in presenting the first-born to the Lord (Luke 2:21-24)
                He listened to the message of God and followed the instruction four times (Matthew 1:24, 2:14,21,22)

Yet he was a natural man.
    He had feeling, emotions, had a job, tried to figure out solutions to questions.
       He tried to figure out what he should do with a pregnant fiance.
          There was a solution in his mind.

In spite of the stress of the circumstances
    He still heard the voice of God.
       Seems there are a number of voices in the world and YES there is HIS.

Joseph had his rights.
    A right to expose publicly his pregnant fiance.
       A right to break the engagement of mariage.
          A right once he was married to Mary to sexual intimacy.
             Yet Joseph was more interested in the RIGHTS of God than his own.
                He relinquished control to the dreams for God and His Kingdom.

Joseph was willing to leave his home, family and country for the sake of Jesus.
    He fled to Egypt to protect this Emmanuel - God with us.
       He made further decisions later on to continue to guard this Christ and God's plan.

When I think about Joseph, I ask the question, "Who is really in control? Who is master of my life?

When I think about Joseph I look at a man who had his plans for his tomorrow immediately in jeopardy because of a sudden change. What happens when plans change? Do we hear the voice of God? Follow?

Thanks God for giving us a hero of the faith like Joseph.

Connexion

to wires stretched across the way.

In the middle of the wires is a tower
That ties everything together
Connexion.

The Lord spoke within my spirit
by His Spirit.
"Be a Connexion"
Connected to the Father.
In the gap... touching this world.

I heard the voice of the Lord saying,
"Whom shall I send?
and who will go for us?
And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"
(Isaiah 6:8)

TASTE of HEAVEN

The family had opportunity to drive to the west coast yesterday
to the plage (beach).
For some reading
knitting
snorkling and
walking.

With a bit of wind
it was cooler but still beautiful.

As the sun set
around 5:40PM
(We are in the southern hemisphere)
We prepared to depart.

But we did see the
Sunset
one more time
Another original
Amazing
"A little taste of heaven"

We worshipped again on Sunday
with the Community of faith.
A brother of one of the families
arrived to be with this spiritual Family
for the first time.

He came with quite a past.
Broken and bruised
Very little hope.

He wanted to pray though.
Hear and experience what God has to say
through the Scripture.
He prayed a prayer of confession
His need of Jesus the Christ
The Saviour -
Best Friend and Comforter.

Our hearts were filled with joy.
Heaven rejoiced
"A great Taste of Heaven"

Note: Please pray for this man as he begins the Spiritual journey in Christ and with the Family of God.

Pentecost

Perhaps this has been one of the more meaningful
celebrations of Pentecost
That has been experienced personally.

We joined together with the family of God
this morning
for the first time in an Upper Room
that has been recently renovated
Prepared to be a place of worship.

A place with a People Who know Christ
follow Christ
experience Christ
Communicating wholeness and hope.

The worship was rich.
The presence of God was real.
The sharing of the Word brought response.

This day is a gift, a memoire
of what took place the day the Church was born.
A Spirit filled Organism that exists for Jesus.
